- Yes, for most visitors the cable car is one of the best ways to experience Montjuïc
- A fun way to get up Montjuïc Hill whilst enjoying the panoramic views.

How to Get to the Montjuïc Cable Car
Getting to the cable car is straight forward with several convenient options:
- Funicular + Cable Car: Take the Montjuïc funicular from Paral·lel metro station up to Parc de Montjuïc. From there, it's just a short walk to the cable car station. This is one of the quickest and most popular routes.
- From Barceloneta (Port Cable Car): You can also take a ride on Barcelona’s other cable car called the 'Barcelona Port Cable Car' from Barceloneta Beach! Once you arrive on Montjuïc from the Port Cable Car, it's a short and clearly signposted walk to the Montjuïc Cable Car station.
- Hop-On Hop-Off Bus : Some of Barcelona hop-on hop-off bus routes also include a stop right by the cable car station, making it an easy addition to your sightseeing itinerary!
Where Does the Montjuïc Cable Car Go?
The Montjuïc Cable Car connects the lower slopes of Montjuïc with the hilltop fortress, offering great views along the way.
- Journey up: From Parc de Montjuïc to Castell de Montjuïc.
- Journey down: From the castle, with an optional stop at Mirador de l'Alcalde.
- If you choose to stop at ‘Mirador de l’Alcalde’, you’ll have access to some of Montjuïc’s beautiful green spaces, including the ‘Jardins de Mossèn Costa i Llobera’ and the nearby landscaped viewpoints which overlook the city and port.
Important: Don’t Confuse It With the Other Cable Car
Barcelona has two different cable cars:
Montjuïc Cable Car (this one)
- Runs up the hill
- Modern enclosed cabins
- Connects to Montjuïc Castle
Port Cable Car (Transbordador Aeri del Port)
- Runs over the harbour
- Starts near Barceloneta
- More dramatic but less practical
Many visitors book the wrong one so make sure you choose correctly.
About Montjuïc Cable Car
The Montjuïc Cable Car (officially known as the 'Telefèric de Montjuïc') is one of the best ways to reach the top of Montjuïc Hill whilst enjoying panoramic views over Barcelona on route! It takes around 5-minutes to travel up/down the 750-metre track and the cabins offer a smooth ride as they glide you up and down the hillside, making the journey just as memorable as the destination!
Parc de Montjuïc (Lower Station)
From here you can easily reach cultural highlights like the Fundació Joan Miró, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, and Poble Espanyol. The Olympic Ring is also nearby.
Mirador de l’Alcalde (Optional Stop)

Castellde Montjuïc (Top Station)
At the summit, you’ll find Castell de Montjuïc, a historic 17th-century fortress with sweeping views over the city and the Mediterranean.
What to See at the Top of Montjuïc hill
Reaching the top is just the beginning. The castle area offers some of the most spectacular panoramic views in Barcelona. From here, you can look out across the city skyline and try to spot landmarks like the Sagrada Família and Torre Glòries.
- Fun fact: Its said that Antoni Gaudí, the famous architect that designed the Sagrada Família designed it to reach a maximum height of 170 meters, which is just one metre shorter than Montjuïc Hill and this was intentional because he believed human creations should not surpass the work of nature!
