About the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA)
Located in the Raval district in Barcelona, the MACBA building was designed by American architect Richard Meier and in keeping with its name, the building itself is a prime example of contemporary architecture.
The MACBA collection primarily focuses on the second half of the 20th century onwards and includes works by both local Catalan artists as well as international ones and offers paintings, sculptures, photography, video and other installations.
The permanent collection consists of around 3000 pieces from hundreds of artists including works from:
- Jean-Michel Basquiat
- Keith Haring
- Ignasi Aballi
- Antoni Llena
- Vito Acconci
- Marcel Broodthaers
- Gego
- Eduardo Chillida
- Andrea Fraser, amongst many others.
The MACBA also offers various different exhibitions throughout the year as well as offering workshops, hosting conferences, film projects and other performances.
