About Barcelona Zoo
Barcelona Zoo is home to more than 2000 animals from over 300 different species, including both native and exotic species.
It combines nature with a modern zoo setting and has designed the animals enclosures to replicate their natural wild habitats.
The Aviary
An expansive mesh dome that is home to many different exotic bird species who all live in harmony.
Visitors can wander through walkways and listen to the bird song and spot the residents as they sit in the trees of fly over above.
Primates
The primate section offers an intimate encounter with a range of primates. You can see chimpanzees, gorillas, and other playful monkeys thriving in their habitats and showing insights into their social dynamics and behaviours.
Aquatic Creatures
In the aquatic section visitors can see the playful Californian Sea Lions. Did you know that Sea Lions are different to seals because they have smaller external ear flaps and they also have the ability to bend their rear flippers to help them move on land!
The zoos Humboldt penguins are also in this section which normally bring a smile to most faces.
You can also see hundreds of different types of fish from bright colourful ones to more local species.
Big Cats
Home to lions, tigers, and leopards which roam in spacious enclosures.
Informative displays not only show the raw power and grace of these creatures but also underscore the zoos commitment to conservation and how they are trying to help protect and increase the dwindling numbers of big cats around the world with their conservation efforts.
Elephants
Home to African bush elephants, this zone focuses on animal welfare and conservation, offering large open spaces designed to support natural movement and behaviour.
Reptiles
From slithering snakes to fearsome crocodiles and various others in between such as little lizards and poison dart frogs.
The zone offers a glimpse into the world of reptiles. You can read the engaging educational boards that shed light on the vital roles that the creatures play in their natural ecosystems and help to foster a deeper appreciation for their unique characteristics.
Children's Zoo
The Children’s Zoo has been designed with youngsters in mind.
A dynamic space for education and fun with interactive exhibits that allow children to connect with farm animals which helps to foster a sense of responsibility and respect for all living beings.
The area shows the zoos dedication to creating a family-friendly environment.
Visitors can find favourites such as goats, cows, sheep, pigs, horses, donkeys and even an incredibly rare Catalan Donkey.
The space also has some smaller animals to interact with such as rabbits, mice and hamsters, all with the purpose of introducing animals to kids.
Botanical Gardens
Beyond the animal exhibits, Barcelona Zoo also features landscaped botanical gardens that offer a peaceful space to relax and enjoy nature. The gardens include a wide variety of plants, flowers and trees, adding to the calm, green atmosphere of the park.
