About Barcelona Zoo
Sitting in the beautiful 'Parc de la Ciutadella', Barcelona Zoo is home to more than 2000 animals from over 300 different species, including both native and exotic species. The zoo combines nature with modern zoo setting and has built the animal enclosures to replicate their natural wild habitats.
The Aviary
One of the many wonderful features of Barcelona Zoo is its beautiful Aviary. An expansive mesh dome that is home to many different exotic bird species who all live in harmony. You can wander through walkways and listen to the bird song and spot the residents as they sit in the trees of fly over above.
Primates
Next is the 'Primate Paradise' section which offers an intimate encounter with a range of primates including chimpanzees, gorillas, and other playful monkeys which thrive in thoughtfully crafted habitats that mirror their natural environments, which provide insights into their social dynamics and behaviours and just fun to watch! Natural habitats is something that is of the utmost important to the zoo, so they have tried to replicate the animals natural living environments helping them feel as comfortable as possible at the zoo to help them thrive.
Aquatic Creatures
In the aquatic section you can find some playful Californian Sea Lions! Did you know that Sea Lions are different to seals because they have smaller external ear flaps and they also have the ability to bend their rear flippers to help them move on land! You can also find the penguins in this section which normally bring a smile to most faces! Its Humboldt Penguins that live at Barcelona Zoo and you will likely see them snacking on some fish! You can also find hundreds of different types of fish from bright colourful ones to more local species!
Big Cats
For big cat lovers, the Feline Kingdom is the realm where lions, tigers, and leopards roam in spacious enclosures and do what big cats do (lie down for most of the day!). Informative displays in the zones not only show the raw power and grace of these creatures but also underscore the zoo's commitment to conservation and how they are trying to help protect and increase the dwindling numbers of big cats around the world with their conservation efforts.
Elephants
The Elephant Oasis also shows Barcelona Zoo's dedication to animal welfare. The area focuses on elephant conservation and is a firm favourite. Reptiles

Children's Zoo
The Children’s Zoo has been designed with youngsters in mind. A dynamic space of education and fun with interactive exhibits that allow kids to connect with farm animals which helps to foster a sense of responsibility and respect for all living beings. The area shows Barcelona Zoo's dedication to creating a family-friendly environment. You can find favourites such as cheeky goats, cows, sheep, pigs, horses, donkey's and even an incredibly rare Catalan Donkey!
